Things To Do
There is a wide variety of activities to do in the area. We’ve listed a few below but the house is stocked with brochures so you can decide when you arrive. There are tourist information centres at Glenbrook and Katoomba.
Local Walks
- Wentworth Falls lake – 10 minutes walk to the lake (turn right when leaving the house, cross the road then turn left up Sinclair Crescent) then an easy-graded circuit of about 70 minutes (but not suitable for prams/wheelchairs)
- There are a large variety of walks of varying length and difficulty starting from the Wentworth Falls picnic area and the Conservation Hut. In particular the National Pass Walking Track starting at the Conservation Hut in Fletcher St Wentworth Falls is a recently renovated and spectacular walking track (25 minutes walk from Norfolk House - 5 minutes by car - but is not suitable for children or the unfit) and takes a 4-5 hour round trip
- Charles Darwin Walk
Views
- Wentworth Falls (of course!) – follow the brown signs to the southern part of Wentworth Falls township, on the other side of the Great Western Highway (can be walked from Norfolk House in 25 minutes)
- Although not as famous as the view of The Three Sisters at Katoomba, Govett’s Leap lookout at Blackheath is equally beautiful ( 20 minutes drive)
Other Interesting Attractions
- Hartley – 30 minutes drive west along the Great Western Highway, past Mt Victoria, there’s not a lot apart from some beautiful early-19th century sandstone buildings.... but that’s its charm
- Scenic World in Katoomba is busy but still worth a visit for the scenic railway and cable car rides
- Catching a train to Leura or Katoomba, enjoying a leisurely lunch and browsing the shops (but check the timetables – trains run only once per hour on weekends)
- Leura has an quaint old-fashioned museum featuring vintage toys and dolls plus a lovely shopping strip
- The Zig Zag Railway, near Lithgow
